The Global Wheel Lok
Dangers in the Loading BayLoading bay accidents account for 25% of all accidents in factories and warehouses, but new technology is helping to make the loading bay a safer place. Examples include the replacement of mechanical dock levellers with hydraulic ones, and the introduction of wheel locks to prevent lorry trailers moving away from the loading dock before they should.
Trailer CreepUnauthorised vehicle departure from a loading dock is one of the most common hazards in the warehouse. This occurs either because the trailer 'creeps' away from the dock as it is being loaded/unloaded, or because the truck drives off, thinking it is OK to do so. Safety SolutionThe Global Wheel Lok (GWL) from Caljan Rite-Hite is a trailer restraint that locks the trailer in place. Used with a traffic light system it is very effective in solving the problems of trailer creep and unplanned vehicle departure. Rear Wheel LockedThe GWL can secure trailers with the rear axle up to 4m from the back of the trailer, and with tyres up to 1.12m in diameter. The truck reverses up to the loading dock and the restraint rises over the rear tyre and locks. The truck is then loaded/unloaded securely locked in place. When the loading/unloading has finished, the restraint is unlocked, allowing the vehicle to move off safely. |
